Why the Name “Aztec”?
People often ask why I chose the name Aztec Mediation Group.
The answer is deeply personal.
Since I was a young child, I have been fascinated by the history and culture of the Aztec people, known historically as the Mexica. My grandfather, Arturo Rivera, shared stories of the Aztecs with me that sparked a lifelong interest in their history, resilience, and enduring legacy.
My mother’s family is from Mexico, and choosing the name Aztec Mediation Group is my way of honoring that heritage and the generations who came before me. My interest in Mexica history deepened over the years, including through my favorite book, Aztec by Gary Jennings, which inspired me to continue learning about the culture, traditions, and history of the Mexica people.
The name Aztec represents more than history. It reflects the values I strive to bring to every mediation: respect, wisdom, integrity, courage, and the belief that even difficult conflicts can be resolved through thoughtful dialogue and mutual understanding.
